yART sale 2014
Sunday June 29, 10:00am-4:00pm
Pittsburgh Center for the Arts will hold its annual “yART” sale – a creative spin on the traditional yard sale – on the lawn, Sunday, June 29, 2014. Adjacent to Mellon Park, PCA's tree-lined campus is at the corner of Fifth and Shady in Shadyside. Admission is free; and non-perishable food items will be collected for the Greater Community Pittsburgh Food Bank. Hours are 10:00 – 4:00, rain or shine.
The annual outdoor event will feature approximately 70 local artists this year. They are cleaning out their studios to bring affordable art, equipment and art supplies (including paints, brushes, paper, and drawing tables). Expect to find ceramic pieces, photographs, jewelry, art books, fabric, unframed prints, glass pieces, and collectibles.
“It's just a great opportunity for folks to get outside, meet local artists, and find a few art bargains,” says Tiffany Whitfield, manager of The Shop at PCA
yART Sale prices range from 50 cents to 200 dollars, with most items at bargain-basement prices. All proceeds benefit the programs of PF/PCA.
New this year at the Mr. & Mrs. Ira Gordon Raku Pavilion:
Art Auction/Burn with local artist Kathleen Zimbicki at 1:00pm
Kathleen Zimbicki, who is celebrating her 80th birthday, wanted to give her supporters an opportunity to add one of her pieces to their collections at affordable prices. Works that typically sell for $160 - $1,200 will be priced at $40, $80 and $160 for the one-day yART sale. There will also be a selection of paintings for $8 that, if not sold, will be burned in the Gordon Raku Pavilion, beginning at 1:00 pm. Proceeds will be split between the artist and PCA.
Acoustic performance by local musician Joy Ike at 3:00pm
Also new for this year's outdoor event is a live performance by Pittsburgh's own Joy Ike. The singer/songwriter has been compared to Corinne Bailey Rae, Norah Jones and Regina Spektor. She has been named "Best Solo Artist" in Pittsburgh City Paper for four years in a row and has opened for a number of national touring artists. Ms. Ike's performance begins at 3:00pm in the Gordon Raku Pavilion.
