One of the most significant international contemporary artists of our times, Richter granted filmmaker Corinna Belz rare access to his studio where he was working on a series of large abstract paintings. The result is a thrilling, fly-on-the-wall perspective of the personal, tension-filled artistic process. With quiet, highly concentrated images, we see Richter paint, observe, contemplate, wait, reject, rework and sometimes destroy only to begin anew, as the paintings themselves become the protagonists. Ultimately this penetrating portrait is about the art of seeing. (Corinna Belz; Germany; 2011; 102 min)
