MondaysSecrets of Screen ActingAnnie Seamans Media Arts Lab Learn the tricks of the trade for acting in movies and television We’ve been watching film and television actors all our lives—- but what makes for a successful screen performance? How does it differ from acting on the stage? In this class, the instructor will utilize video to demonstrate and instruct acting-for-the-camera techniques to young actors Additionally, students will examine great film performances to discover the secrets of their success Students will perform on camera and critique their performance in class, enabling them to learn the basics of professional film and television craft One class will focus on audition technique, to prepare young actors to try out for the many film and television productions that shoot in Pittsburgh every year Each student will receive a DVD of their work that can be used as an introduction to casting directors. Arts Partners (Ages 2 - 3 w/adult)Insructor: Angela Perino Experience the joy of spending time creating with your favorite young person Have fun working together transforming paint, clay, glitter, glue and more into unique works of art to display or give away A new activity will be introduced each week Each child must be accompanied by one adult. TuesdaysAnimation StudioInstructor: Olivia Ciummo This hands-on class will expose students to the foundations of a variety of popular stop-motion styles including 2D, object, and pixilation (animating people) Computer and drawing talent is not necessary to make projects in this class Digital video cameras and Apple software will be used to create finished projects and examples from essential films will be screened as a lead-in to each topic Completed movies will be ready to burn to DVD or post on the internet. Flower Power (ages 4-6)Instructor: Lacey Wolcott Celebrate the arrival of springtime at PCA! Draw, paint and sculpt bugs, butterflies, trees and flowers as we watch the world bloom Enjoy the sunshine and gardens of Mellon Park first hand, weather permitting.! Introduction to Drawing (ages 6-9)Instructor: Joanna Abel Use a variety of drawing materials including charcoal, graphite, colored pencil & marker while learning the fundamental techniques of drawing Learn to use line, shading, perspective, negative space and texture to draw landscapes, still life scenes and portraits or simply to capture your imagination on paper. Wheelthrown Ceramics (ages 9-14)Instructor: Missi Treece Learn to create pots, bowls, mugs and more in this fun introduction to making pottery on the wheel Preparing the clay, using clay tools, centering, throwing cylinders and bowls, as well as glazing and decorating techniques covered Firing processes and clay properties also discussed WEDNESDAYSLadybug, Ladybug (ages 3-5 )Instructor: Angela Perino Through a variety of art projects, enter into a world of dots and spots, stripes and shapes as you learn about ladybugs, bumble bees and many other colorful flying friends Make your own insects with paint, clay, crayons, fabric and more. Young Masters (ages 6-9)Instructor: Joanna Abel Students will view and discuss the great painters and sculptors throughout history, using their works as a springboard for creating unique artworks with a wide variety of art materials This is a great class for students who love to draw and are ready to take the next step in their art! Cartooning (ages 9-14)Instructor: Thad Dachille Move over Mickey Mouse, and start creating your own cartoon paintings! Topics will include painting a cut out animal, creating a cartoon strip, and a class cartoon collage project We will cultivate interest in creating expressionistic imagery, painting techniques, and yes of course, silly faces. Thursdays3D Computer AnimationInstructor : Andrew Pavlick This course will introduce students to Blender, a popular and powerful open source software application used for 3D animation in movies and videogames Students will learn creative approaches to making their own 3D objects while developing a working knowledge of the principles of animated movement Class activities will include exercises, demonstrations and examples designed to give students a solid foundation in this captivating field. Sketchbook (ages 8-12)Instructor: Jane Stubna Sketching what you see is a vital tool for becoming a better artist Sketch people, animals, objects and places while experimenting with various techniques for pencil, charcoal, markers and pastels Class held outdoors, weather permitting A sketchbook to take home is included in the fee. SaturdaysAnimation StudioInstructor: Olivia Ciummo The activities in this course will nurture the creative spirit by allowing students to experiment with the art form of animation Learn varied approaches to making animated movies, partly by screening the work of animators, but mostly with hands-on projects using traditional animation techniques aided by Apple computers Experiment with motion painting and pixilation Final projects will be burned onto a DVD. The Colors of Spring (ages 4-6) *CancelledInstructor: Jane Stubna Drawing StudioInstructor: Rikki Walsh Join in this new professional studio experience for young artists Learn the basics of drawing and painting through exercises that focus on still life, portrait, and wildlife subjects Use a variety of materials including pencil, ink, charcoal and paint to produce several finished projects. Side by Side (ages 3-4 w/adult)Instructor: Robin Harsh Adult-child teams engage in creative art activities together using paint, paper, markers and clay Discover the joy of creating art with a special child in your life Each child must be accompanied by their own adult. Fee is for one child and one adult. Sculpture Sampler (ages 6-9) *CancelledInstructor: Jane Stubna Turn your mind from 2-D to 3-D! Learn the basics of sculpture in this introductory class on the art of the third dimension Experiment with clay, plaster and more as you explore the possibilities of building all your imagination can create. Drawing and Painting Studio (ages 6-9)Instructor: Rikki Walsh Experience life as a studio artist in this introduction to drawing and painting techniques Learn the basics of drawing and painting through exercises that focus on still life, portrait, and wildlife subjects Use a variety of materials including pencil, ink, charcoal and paint to produce several finished projects. Perfect Portraits (ages 8-12) *CancelledInstructor: Jane Stubna You are the inspiration for this class! Follow in the rich tradition of our master artists by looking to the self-portrait for inspiration Learn the basic techniques for rendering the human face Work from your own face as well as the faces of your friends and family to develop your skills as a young artist Drawing and painting techniques will be covered. Wheelthrown Ceramics (ages 9-14)Instructor: Kristin DeGiovanni Learn to create pots, bowls, mugs and more in this fun introduction to making pottery on the wheel Preparing the clay, using clay tools, centering, throwing cylinders and bowls, as well as glazing and decorating techniques covered Firing processes and clay properties also discussed. Clay for Two (ages 5-8 w/adult)Instructor: Robin Harsh Collaborate on projects or work independently side-by-side to create pots, tiles and small sculptures while learning handbuilding methods like pinch, coil and slab construction. Use glazes, underglazes or paints to finish our pieces. Fee is for one child and one adult. Beginning Jewelrymaking (ages 13-16)Instructor: Pat Falbo Learn the basics of bench jewelrymaking, including sawing, filing, forming, soldering, and proper use of tools Work with copper, brass and sterling silver to fashion as least one ring, bracelet or pendant of your own design Also cover stone and bezel setting.
