Learn bookbinding techniques to construct artist books, sketchbooks and journals. Choose from several types of bookmaking that will influence individual exploration in the creation of your own handmade books and journals. A supply list will be mailed upon registration.

Decorations and Glazes (new!)

Save a few pots for this end-of-the-term workshop designed to help you sharpen your skills with glazing. Techniques using oxides, wax resist and sgraffito on greenware will be explored. Students should bring 5-6 bisque-fired and/or greenware pieces to the first class.

Join renowned ceramicist Dale Huffman for this artist talk exploring how his travels and associated experiences have changed his work and the philosophy that drives it. Dale will be returning from a residency in Denmark just before the talk and will fill us in on this unique experience. Afterwards, Dale will utilize a throwing demonstration to illustrate aspects of his talk.

Holiday Soapmaking Workshop

Handmade soap makes a wonderful holiday gift. Make homemade olive oil soap from scratch, using oils and lye. Students should bring a one quart milk carton, a 4-8 cup bowl and a mixing spoon. Purchase materials from Instructor (not to exceed $10). Colors and scents will be available. Workshop held at the Instructor's studio in the Strip District, 2124 Penn Ave, side entrance on 22nd St (Hot Haute Hot storefront).

Warp Dyeing Workshop (new!)

Weavers can open up a fascinating world of color and design by creating their own warps. Warp painting utilizes dyes on a predetermined warp. Learn about direct application, dyes, specific tools to enhance certain design effects and how to process these warps in a user-friendly manner, for washfast, lightfast color. Material purchased in class ($16). Bring bag lunch.

An Evening of Earrings

Make different styles of irresistible earrings for holiday gifts, or for yourself, in this fun, easy class! Explore variations of the latest earring styles. Turn unusual beads, stones and crystals into stunning earrings that are fun and funky or simple and elegant. Earrings will be designed on 14 kt gold-filled or sterling silver ear wires. $20 materials fee (payable to the Instructor) will cover 2 pairs of earrings, and a tool kit to make more pairs on your own.

Holiday Beadmaking Workshop

Explore the exciting world of glass beadmaking using portable hot head torches. Make beads the first two days using rods of Italian glass. The third day will be devoted to preparing the beads and making them into gifts for others or yourself - bookmarks, key-chains, zipper pulls, earrings and necklaces. Beading materials for the third day are paid by the student to the Instructor (approx. $5 to $40, depending on the number and type of projects selected). A list of household items sent upon registration.
