Filmmakers at the Center

Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts (PF/PCA) has been a leader in media education and home to one of the oldest and most respected film, digital media and photography schools in the country for forty years. Through our Filmmakers at the Center program, PF/PCA provides comprehensive media literacy education to young people. The program is housed in The Annie Seamans Media Arts Lab, a state-of-the-art facility consisting of two lab/classrooms located in the Scaife School Building at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

Media Literacy

Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create media in a variety of forms, enabling individuals to become critical consumers and thoughtful creators. A 21st century skill, media literacy is increasingly important as ever-expanding digital technologies are used to convey information and entertainment in contemporary culture, frequently blurring the line between the two. The Filmmakers at the Center program provides media literacy education to the region through innovative classes, hands-on workshops, and outreach programs to schools and other community partners. Classes, camps and workshops are offered in a wide range of media including digital video, filmmaking, photography, animation and interactive media.
