This group visit experience is centered around the work in our galleries and encourages students to respond creatively to their observations of the artwork on view.

Begin your visit with a 45-minute tour of PCA’s galleries. Our teaching artists will lead your students through each gallery, engage them in inquiry-based discussion, and help them to find meaning in the work. After the gallery visit, students will respond to their experience by participating in a 90-minute hands-on artmaking activity. Students may work in 2D media including drawing, painting, printmaking and collage.

Our educators will work with you to determine the content of your workshop, based on your goals and the content of our current exhibitions. All workshops can be tailored to meet specific PA Academic Standards and Common Core Standards.

Printmaking

In this workshop students will create monoprints by transferring an image from plexi-glass to paper and rolling it through the press, resulting in painterly textures and surface effects. Fun, accessible and great for young artists, this process results in fantastic 2D works of art.

Exploring Mixed Media

Combine a variety of techniques such as drawing, painting, and collage to create exciting works of art. In addition to building on themes from the galleries, students will focus on composition, balance, color and shape.

Art Journaling

Maximum # of visitors: 75
Price: $175 for 1-15 students; $10 per student for each additional student

Students will explore an artwork in PCA’s galleries through multiple means of observation and understanding including discussion, sketching and writing. The group will discuss clues in the artwork that help tell a story such as where the work was made, what its about, who the artist is, etc. After brainstorming with your classmates, use drawing and a written piece such a narrative, poem or play to communicate your ideas.
