Alec Rowley (1891- 1958) was active as a composer during a period in music when tunefulness and grace was going out of fashion. His engaging music was sometimes written off during his lifetime and he became better known for his educational music than his substantial output of other work. Rowley's muse is ageless, and repeated hearings will enhance rather than diminish his music's appeal.
Performed by Patricia Reibaud, violin; Tatjana Mead Chamis, viola; Mikhail Lezdkan, cello; and Igor Kraevsky, piano.
This recording is a collaborative project of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and WQED FM with additional support from City Music Center at Duquesne University, Watercolors Gallery, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and Trombino Piano Gallerie.
