(40 slides, audiocassette - 30 minutes, and text provided in both English and French)
A brief review of the rococo, neoclassic, and romantic styles in French painting provides a background for an analysis of impressionism and post-impressionism. Paintings by Manet, Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, van Gogh, Gaughin, and CÚzanne from the National Gallery's collections illustrate diverse developments in late nineteenth and early twentieth century art.
