This camp offers an introduction to the abstract painters, from Pablo Picasso to Jackson Pollock. What subjects inspired their works? Why did they choose abstraction to express themselves over more realism? How were they influenced by the world around them? In concentrated studio time, you will learn and develop basic painting skills, using both traditional and non-traditional media. Outdoor sketching, landscape, still-life and portraiture painting will be explored through the eyes of the abstractionists. During the week, participants will see a slide show provided by the National Gallery of Art on various modern painters and their work.
