Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking volunteers. Various opportunities include visitor services, gallery attending, exhibitions/installation, the PCA shop, special events, and administrative help. Day and evening opportunities available. College credit is available upon request.
Qualifications: Must be reliable, mature, and able to handle responsibility with enthusiasm. Opportunities available from weekly to monthly.

Artist Residency Program Documentation Intern
School & Community Programs at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking
an intern to document three to five Artist Residency Projects using a digital
camera and a digital camcorder. The intern will edit the images in order to
produce a 2-3 minute CD for each project that can be used to market the Artist
Residency Program. The intern will also combine the images from all five projects
to produce a longer 3-7 minute CD to be used for the same marketing purpose.
Artist Residency Projects Advocacy Intern
School & Community Programs at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking
an intern to work on advocacy for the Artist Residency Program. This
person will coordinate the communication going to state senators and representatives
about residency projects in their districts this year and last. The intern
will do research, compile reports, and send letters to the local and
state offices.
Poetry Out Loud Intern
School & Community Programs at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking
an intern to assist with the Poetry Out Loud project. This person will document
the project as well as handle some paperwork and communication. Internship October
2006 – April 2007. Poetry Out Loud builds on the recent resurgence of poetry
as an oral art form. The program encourages the nation’s youth to learn about
great poetry by memorizing and performing this great work. This helps students
master public speaking skills, build their self-confidence, and learn about their
literary heritage.
Shop Assistant Intern
The PCA Shop is seeking an intern to assist with the 2006 Holiday Shop. During
set-up, this person will assist with appointments to meet shop artists one
on one to go through delivered inventory. The intern will work with the shop
staff to build and install the holiday shop in the galleries. During the
Holiday Shop the shop assistant will also help at the Front Desk.
Finance Dept. Assistant Intern
The Finance Department at Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking
an intern to assist with department operations including accounts payable,
cash receipts, and filing.
Development/Membership Intern
The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking an intern to assist the Director
of Development in processing memberships and monthly letter correspondence.
“Essence of Pittsburgh” Exhibition and Book Intern
Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is looking for an intern to work on
book marketing and distribution and traveling exhibition opportunities
for Ron Donoughe’s “Essence of Pittsburgh” exhibition and book. This person
will assist in creating a general marketing/sales plan for the “Essence
of Pittsburgh” book and contacting local bookstores for commitments to
place this book in their store. The intern will also be contacting art
centers and museums regionally and nationally to travel the exhibition.
Center Operations
Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking interns and volunteers to
assist in daily operations such as greeting and directing museum
visitors and guests during daily hours as well as special events and programs,
and assisting visitors with admissions and general exhibition inquiries.
This person will work directly with administrative staff at the
Center on special projects such as letter correspondence, file maintenance
and facilities management. The intern will also assist the Exhibition
Dept. during show installation.
Artist/Installation Assistant (dependent on exhibition schedule)
The Exhibition Department is seeking interns and volunteers to assist exhibiting
artists and the Center curator in installation and removal of artwork.
Includes a variety of artistic and manual labor involved in
hanging artwork and installation. Studio art and/or carpentry experience
a plus.
School Assistant Intern
Pittsburgh Center for the Arts school is seeking an intern to assist
with school operations. This person will provide general administrative
staff support including clerical tasks, customer service, and
other various office projects. The intern will also assist in classroom
set-up and maintenance of the studios.
Facilities Maintenance
Pittsburgh Center for the Arts is seeking an intern/volunteer to assist
in the general maintenance of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts
school and gallery building. Tasks include painting, moving equipment
and furniture, and general building maintenance work.
